Here’s a versatile smoothie you might like either for a leisurely weekend brunch or as your quick, delicious on-the-go daily “coffee.” Goodveg.squidoo.com offers this Banana Latte Smoothie recipe along with some general tips on making your smoothies better.

Don’t you love foods that are fast and easy to make but are still delicious, can be really healthy, and offer so much versatility? Smoothies can be nutritious, filling, and low calorie if you’re dieting. On top of that, often your family will eat fruits and vegetables in smoothies when they won’t eat them when they’re prepared in other ways. So, that’s awesome!

Banana Latte Smoothie

A great brunch smoothie at the weekend… for an alternate version, add two tablespoons of cocoa powder to make a banana mocha smoothie.

Ingredients:• 2 bananas (frozen)
• 1 cup rice/soy milk
• 1 cup strong chilled black coffee
• Several ice cubes

Put all ingredients into a blender and blend till smooth.

Tips for making the best smoothies:
-If it’s too thin, add a tablespoon of soy yoghurt. If too thick, add a splash of water. If you want a creamier texture, add more ice cubes
-If using bananas, always unpeel and freeze them for at least an hour before blending… it will result in a creamier smoothie
-Instead of adding a banana to create a creamier texture, you can add half a block of silken tofu
-Make frozen juice ice cubes to use in your smoothie or to add after mixing
-Add the liquids into the blender first so it mixes easier
-Add a spoonful of protein powder (eg. hemp protein powder) to boost your smoothie
-You can also throw in a handful of any nuts or seeds to add extra nutrition
-You can always freeze leftover fruit to use when the next smoothie craving calls!
