So this morning I was on VegNews.com and I saw this post that started with “Twenty-one restaurants in Toronto, Ontario, are participating in the Toronto Vegetarian Association’s first Veggielicious event.” I got so excited because I live near Toronto and at first glance I thought that regular restaurants were going to be offering vegan items on their menus for the two weeks that the event runs. Upon further inspection I realized that the restaurants participating are vegetarian, vegan or already serve vegetarian and vegan items, and they are just offering good deals on special vegan meals.
The event runs from April 9th – 24th and there are some great restaurants participating. I think it’s a good idea for people who aren’t familiar with Toronto’s veg restaurants, but since I’ve already been to most of the places on the list, the event itself isn’t enough for me to make a special trip into the city. Now, if the restaurants participating were places that didn’t normally make vegan food, and for two weeks they were going to have special vegan menus, well that would be a different story.
This is the first year for the event, so I applaud the TVA for making an effort to showcase all the great vegetarian and vegan places to eat, however I would suggest that in the future to make the event even better, challenge ALL the restaurants in the city to come up with tasty vegan menus.
